In addition to all sorts of thread, Acorns & Oaks carries quilting fabrics, scissors, batting, cutting mats, needles, buttons, books and finished quilted and embell-ished fabric items. Acorn & Oaks can also special-order fabric or supplies. Quilting classes will start at the shop in January. Those who dont quilt can certainly find something of interest in the shop. Among the finished fabric items on consignment are vintage quilts, embellished sweatshirts, quilted handbags, flags, note cards and magnets. Shirley does embroidery for Acorns & Oaks customers. They can put a name or company logo on aprons or just about anything fabric. Acorns & Oaks is open Wednesday 2-6 p.m., Friday 10-8, Saturday 10-6 and Sunday 11-5. and also by appointment. BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Acorns & Oaks, a new business that opened this month, is referred to by the owners as "your hometown quilt shop." Kathy Arbogast, Cheryl Rink and Shirley Hillgren are members of the local quilting group, Delectable Mountains Quilt Guild. "We've never been shop own-ers before, but we are so excited about this," Rink said. "We are veteran fabric and quilt shop shoppers." The three have been sewing all their lives, she said. "We grew up with the treadle sewing machine," Arbogast added. Acorns & Oaks

to 1920 for sale, as well
as new quilts, wall hangings
and home decor," Rink
said. "Two rocking
chairs are available to
browse the quilting books
or a place for husbands
to sit while their wives
shop." There also
is clothing embellished
with applique and embroidery
for sale, she said. The shop owners will consider quality items for consignment. Some Delectable Mountains Quilt Guild members have items on consignment, Rink said. Karen McCusker has five quilts on display in the store. McCusker owns a nearby hair salon and is "a working quilter." she said, but finds the time to make quilts."Roses for the Bride" is a queen-size quilt and won first place at the Morgan County Fair this year."These are treasures that could last forever," McCusker said."These are heirlooms passed down within the family," Rink said. Starting Jan. 7, Acorns & Oaks will offer quilting classes called Quilter's Night Out, Rink said. The class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on the first Saturday of every month and will be ongoing, she said. Basic quilting will be taught.Sally Marshall, president of Travel Berkeley Springs, said with quilting back in vogue, "we are thrilled to get a quilt shop in Berkeley Springs."Acorns & Oaks, 168 N. Washington St., is open Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
