Kathy
Arbogast,
Cheryl Rink,
and Shirley
Hillgren
opened Acorns & Oaks
Quilts and More on
October
1, 2005.
The three
owners
are all
members
of the
local
quilt
guild,
The
Delectable
Mountains
Quilt
Guild,
and were
batting
around
the idea
of a
local
quilting
shop
at guild
meetings
for a
year
and
like it was
just
meant
to be,
a recently
remodeled
shop
became
available
so they
decided
to give
it a
try.
All
three women
are quilters
from way back
and simply "love
to quilt".
Each has a
signature
characteristic
that distinguishes
their quilting
skill set
from the others
as well. Kathy's
quilting work
is all done
the old fashioned
way - hand
stitching. Shirley,
with her special
sewing machine,
is our resident
embroidery
efficienado.
In addition,
she especially
enjoys tessellating
designs and
creating her
own fabric
using dyes
and embroidery
for quilting
projects. Cheryl's
fortes are
applique and
design. Between
the three
of them there
is combination
of skills
and experience
that's hard
to beat for
a shop such
as Acorns & Oaks.

More to come.
Shirley
Hillgren, CIO Shirley,
our Chief Information Officer,
created the flags and sign
for our shop and embroidered
our aprons. She keeps us
supplied with business cards
and magnets, and takes care
of all our other advertising
needs (TV and radio ads,
etc.) as well. She is also
starting a newsletter for
the shop. Cheryl
Rink, COO
Cheryl,
our Chief
Operations Officer,
is our primary
fabric buyer
although
all three of us
participate
in fabric
selection to some
degree. She also
lends us expertise
and experience
pricing
fabrics and consignments. |
